8. FAQ: Compose forecast

8.1. What is the functionality of composing forecasts?

With the Compose forecast interface you can store graphs and tables (datadownload) with your personal settings. This allows you to have a short access to your needed information.

Example: You are interested for “day-ahead” as graph and value table for your wind site XXX only, then you can store this setting by name with quick access.

8.2. Is it possible to store settings for having quick access to graphs and downloads?

Yes, you can compose your own graphs adjusted to your needs in tools/compose forecast.

  1. Select the forecast location
  2. Select the forecast variable
  3. determin the forecast duration (from 1 to 30 days max as forecast time frame) and the starting point (the forecast starts in relation from today between -30 to +7)
Example: duration shall be 20 days and start time schall be (-13); then you will have the curve or table values for 20 days with 13 days in the past and 7 days in future
  1. To select the time zone move the mouse pointer to the country of your site and click if this country gets light grey. The red location balloon moves to the selected area.
  2. Now select the forecast output mode, graph or download table. Hook the field beside the description
  3. The output settings have to be defined:
    • select the forecast curves with cklick on the curve name till the red cross turns green
    • you can select a x or y-grid if you want to have x/y-lines shown in your graph
    • in the y axis mode you can have an automatic or fixed scaled y-axis
    • you can enable the scaling to the ann curve, see description formula
    • you can setup a data curve as baseline for all other values
Example: baseline shall be optimal to see the uncertainty to the max and min value
  1. view: you can now see the graph for your settings or the download buttons for the table values in different data format CSV file Excel 5 (.xls) Excel 2007 (.xlsx) XML file
  2. go next and store your settings

Note

if you want to change settings, select the configured forecast, change the setting and store it with another name; configuration no more needed can be deleted with a click on the dustbin here view/stored configurations

8.3. How do I create a graphics with the composer

The composer provides a step by step functionality, where the user is guided through the setup of creating a specific graph with a numer of selections.

The following is a demonstration on how to create a graph that shows the forecasts for German wind power for the past day and the following 3 days ahead. By following this demonstration, it is easy to understand the concept of it.
